History

After having accumulated a library of over 80 assorted vacuum-formed body shapes, Rare Basic felt the year 2000 was time for change. Working with major retailers and with data from Nottingham Trent University they invested 10 months of research to sculpt a family of perfect 3-dimensional bodies made to UK sizing. Their ex-Madame Tussaed's sculptor was able to use his skill and expertise of covering the basic clay with cling film, merchandise was purchased from a cross section of the market and the bodies were moulded into the clothes - hence a perfect fit.

Working with rotational moulding the bodies were made from a beautiful translucent material which gives the appearance of candlewax. The basic raw material has another major advantage as it can be illuminated from within, so the 'Body' and 'Lingerie Lamps' were born.

Other materials can be created to give the illusion of marble, sandstone, or granite and the bodies can be flocked or sprayed.

Rare Basic opened their new premises all under one roof - a stunning Showroom, lounge, bar and offices plus the packing and distribution warehouses. The team has grown from 2 to 12 who take great pride in offering a friendly efficient and personal service.

Through the initial success of Rare Basic and the outstanding reputation that Gay Spanton has carried forth from her time at Adel Rootstein, International Display Works (IDW) approached Mrs Spanton to take forward the distribution for the UK and become the UK representative of the World Wide Display Corporation. This has enabled Rare Basic to broaden our product base and vastly expand an already growing client base. This partnership has contributed to the rapid growth and success of the Rare Basic Ltd.
